Josh Newman reflected on his Maccabi GB National Athlete of the Year Award - a success caps a memorable year where he remained undefeated in all trampolining competitions.

He also won a hat-trick of national gold medals and making the final of his age group at the Elite Super League Final at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Newman said: “It feels great to win, all my hard work has paid off.

“The past two years have been frustrating due to injuries. I’ve made a lot of big changes over the past year and came back fighting.

“I go to the gym four times a week for two-hourly sessions and am the fittest I’ve ever been. I’ve really gone for it. It’s great that trampolining has got some exposure.”

Asked about his targets for 2016, Newman, who is 16 and from Billericay, said: “I’m aiming to qualifying for the European Championships in Spain and am also looking forward to the Senior British Championships.

"I also hope to be selected for some World Cups for Great Britain."
