JOE JACOBSON aims to make it third time lucky by helping Wycombe Wanderers win promotion ahead of the new English Football League season.

Jacobson scored at Wembley but suffered play-off final heartbreak in his first campaign with the League Two club.

His team-mates, who include fellow Jewish player Scott Sellers, failed to recreate those dizzy heights last term as they settled for a mid-table finish.

Now Cardiff-born defender Jacobson, 29, is ready to go again. He said: “We have the nucleus of a squad that can challenge for promotion.

“The boss has added seven few faces. We struggled with injuries last season and when you don’t have the biggest squad that’s where you can come unstruck. But that won’t be the case this time around.

“We all know it’s a long, hard slog ahead of us. The League 2 season is always gruelling but we feel promotion is very much possible.”

Scott Kashket will be looking to make an impression at Leyton Orient who tailed off last season following a strong start.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom and Brentford chairman Cliff Crown will be targeting Premier League promotion.

Brighton, who also feature Israelis Tomer Hemed in attack and Beram Kayal in midfield, were vying for automatic promotion only to miss out in the play-offs in May.

Brentford appointed three different managers last season, but will be aiming to follow up their sparking end-of- season form to mount a challenge.
