PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND THREE
HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB C 1 FC TEAM B 3
Hendon's fairytale cup run came to an end as they were knocked out by their Division Two opponents FC Team B, but they did not go down without a fight.
Top-scorer Alex Elf got the underdogs off to the best possible start, charging down the wing before a cross-come-shot found its way in the net within the opening five minutes.
Hendon's lead didn't last long, however, as they were punished for some poor marking at a corner which led to the equaliser as Josh Kay scored his first goal for the club with a bullet header from a Dan Alfred’s delivery.
With the wind behind them, Hendon were the better side for much of the first half, but failed to trouble the FC Team goalkeeper on too many occasions.
The away side improved after the break to come away with the win, though Hendon were left to rue further missed opportunities.
Mitch Lassman made it 2-1 early in the second half when he smashed home a strike into the roof of the net from a difficult angle. Matt Davis sealed the victory with 10 to go from close range
FC Team player-manager David Gordon told JC Sport: "It was a good performance by everyone today. We started a little slowly but grew into the game in the first half and were camped in their half for the majority of the second.
"There was no complacency and we produced a hard-working and solid performance to see off very determined opposition. We’re hoping for a big team in the quarters!"
Hendon manager Adam Glekin told JC Sport: "It was a case of what might have been. We should have taken a lead into half time, and we were made to pay for it.
"It's unfortunate we only had 11 to choose from today, so I think it's fair to say we didn't take great advantage of the roll-on roll-off subs rule in this cup!
"I didn't think there was too much between the sides, but good luck to them - they're a nicer bunch of lads than many FC Team sides I've come up against in the past so I hope they continue their progress in the cup."
