Chigwell Athletic A have appointed Danny Berg and Greg Bookman as their new management team following the resignation of Russell Green.

Green, who has stood down for personal reasons, was appointed A team manager last summer after leading the B team to the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup final as well as two league titles.

Berg steps up from being assistant-manager of the top-flight high-flyers.

Green said: “Unfortunately I’m unable to continue to give Chigwell my full attention when they need it and that is not good enough for me or the club.

“When I was asked to take charge of the A team, having taken the B team to two titles and one cup final, it seemed like a natural progression as our A team was treading water having finished top four for three years and not managed a decent cup run. Changes were required if we wanted to win something so we brought in some additional players.

“This seemed to do the trick as we are second in the league, in two cups and have a real chance of winning something this year, and more importantly building a serious challenge for the title next year.

“I’m also very happy to leave the running of the club and team in the brilliant hands of Greg and Danny. Greg carries with him so much respect, not only off the pitch but on it as well. Danny is also very talented and has proved how good he is on the pitch and as a great coach.

“The club is in great shape with exciting times to come. I would like to thank the boys for all their support and wish them luck for the rest of the season.”
