Goldstein sets the pace in Romania

V CYCLING ROY Goldstein was the best placed of the CAT riders in the Prologue Individual Time Trial of the “Cycling Tour of Subiu” in Romania, just three days after the Tour of Hungary.

Emanuel Piaskowy and Goldstein were the best placed in the huge bunch finish of stage one, the following day, with the whole team timed together in 4:42:38. Stage two, from Subiu to Paltinis, resulted a splintered field, with only minutes separating the

finishers. Dan Turek was best-placed in fifth, with Lumus Davila, the Mexican champion, in ninth.

There were mixed results in stage three for the short Individual Time Trial around Balea Lac. Chris Butler’s time was just three seconds better than Turek and 16 ahead of Luis Lemus.

Goldstein shone again in the bunch sprint for the line on stage four, recorded in 13th place. At 20th in the same time was Piaskowy with Turek, Lemus and Butler.

Turek was fifth in the general classification after 14 hours of racing and the winner of the ‘Best Climber’ jersey.

Meanwhile, Omer Goldstein is the latest signing for Israel’s Academy Team. Goldstein will make his debut in the ‘Giro della Valle d’Aosta’.

Younger brother of Roy, Goldstein said: ”We give each other everything in a race. I am so happy to reunite with him.”

Ilan Ulman, the Israeli national team coach, commented: “Omer is a great talent with unlimited potential.

“The Academy is the perfect team to develop those talents and fulfil his great promise.”
