GB golfers edged out by Israel in Pesach Cup

articlemain

Israel won the annual Pesach Trophy in a match against their British counterparts.

An expanded field of 40 battled it out for the prestigious trophy, with the action commencing with a four-ball better ball format at a beautifully prepared Caesarea course.

Under a bright blue sky, Israeli flags and Union flags blew in breezy conditions. The visiting GB team, captained by Jeremy Smouha, included AJGCS National Scratch champion Ricky Curtis as well as Mark Gershinson, both playing off a one handicap.

The Israeli team, captained by former tour professional Itamar Cohen, included Israeli champion Barry Shaked as well as the former Commander-in-Chief of the Israeli Air Force and El Al Chief Executive Eliezer Shkedi.

Israel captured two points in the afternoon session before Mark Gershinson holed four birdies to earn GB their first point, together with Russell Nathan. Three more Israeli points and two more GB points went up on the board and the match was finely balanced as the last two games came up the 18th fairway, but Israel held their nerve to claim a 6-4 success.
