Ben Winston, manager of Team GB, has started the search for the players that will make up his squad at next year’s European Maccabi Games in Vienna.
Team GB’s Open football section has performed to a high level over the past few years, winning bronze in Rome in 2007 followed by silver at last year’s Maccabiah Games. The aim for next year is gold.
Winston said: “We are looking at all players, at every level. As well as the top league MSFL players, we are also very keen to discover untapped talent. Players who may not be playing at the highest level because they would rather be in a team with their friends.”
The manager is keen to point out that only players who play for a Maccabi affiliated clubs are able to join the squad.
Winston said: “This does give a great opportunity to players playing at any level of the MSFL or MSJL. A player who does not play for a Maccabi affiliated club, but is in full time education, including university or college would also qualify.
Open Men’s Football team trials will be held on the evening of May 12 at Rowley Lane, and the morning of June 6 at Hatfield.
Players interested must complete an online application form, completing the section for the Open squad. Forms are available at: www.maccabigb.org/european_games/.
