MGBSFL DIVISION TWO
NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C 5 TEMPLE FORTUNE 0
Two picturebook goals from OLIVER TELVI guided Raiders C into joint-third place in Division Two in the ultimate game of respect which finished with both managers applauding their opponents.
A dominant Raiders were two up just before quarter of an hour. First ,b>CHARLES BRAUNSTEIN headed home his fourth of the season from a corner, before ALEX ELF added a fine second from range barely a minute later.
Raiders remained in total control of possession and should have added more before the interval. Elf, Nick Haringman and Olivier Telvi all missing chances.
But the game was really put beyond doubt just after the restart. TELVI finding his range with another long-range effort, and added his second just before the hour with a fierce effort from the edge of the area. WILL UFLAND added a fifth late on as NLR keep up their promotion push in style.
With Zack Gothelf away, David Domb took charge of the team and told JC Sport: "The most important thing today was three points and the boys delivered.
"We made sure there wasn't a repeat of our last meeting where we struggled and we got the job done.
"Credit to Fortune who battled right until the end, but we did what was needed from our side.
"It's back to the training ground and another big game with Boca next week."
Fortune boss Jonathan Cohen said "The scoreline doesn’t reflect the effort that was shown by my team at all. We played for 90 minutes with no recognised keeper and about 60 minutes with just 10 men owing to an injury, but honestly we never ever gave up and the on pitch camaraderie was acknowledged by all.
"Special mention to Jeremy Barnet who played very well in goal on the day and really can't be blamed for any of the goals. A true mensch.
"In truth the Raiders should have scored more and they would probably admit that quite often they shot when the better option might have been to pass.
"They are a good side and a really nice bunch of lads - their manager made a point of telling me and David Woolf how much respect he had for our team. We wish them well for the rest of the season."
