Free-scoring striker Richard Fogelman, aka Schnitzelman, this week revealed why he swapped the black and white of Jewventus for the famous green and white hoops of Faithfold.

One of the most prolific marksmen in the MSFL in recent seasons, Fogelman took the unusual step of advertising himself on social networking site Facebook, although he later deleted his post after a telling off from his manager at Jewve, Gabriel John.

“It was a very hard decision as I am so close with all the boys at Jewve but it is time for a new challenge,” Fogelman told JC Sport. “I had a few offers from clubs in the top three divisions but I know the boys at Faithfold well.

The former South Manx hotshot explained that there were two reasons for his departure from the Division Four strugglers.

“Having scored 20-plus goals in each of my last two seasons and not progressing up the divisions, I knew it was time for a change.

“It was also the influence of Rabbi Steven Katz at Hendon Synagogue, who is a keen follower of my headlines. As I wished him shana tova on Rosh Hashanah, he muttered to me ‘haven’t seen your name in the JC for a while’. I knew something needed to be done. The next hat-trick will be dedicated to him!

“Also, Simon Beresford and I both share the love for schnitzels, and that’s why I knew Faithfold was right for me. He has been known to eat up to five in one sitting and because of that I have great respect for him.

“He has promised me a trip to Lemonade after I score my first goal where we will have a schnitzel-off.”

Fogelman is expected to take his place in the Faithfold C squad.

He said: “I’m hoping to start in a fortnight but expect to be on the bench Sunday and will see how it goes.”

Jewve boss John sent this message to the departing Fogelman. “I wish Fogey all the best, but I know we’ll see him again.

“Like when Van Nistelrooy left United, we'll bounce back and now it's time for others to raise the Phoenix from the flames.”
