Stuart Delmonte believes AFC Flixton now have one hand on the Accountants Premier League trophy.

Defender Michael Sacks came back to haunt his by former club by grabbing the winner against their title rivals.

It means Flixton can win the championship – even if their nearest challengers gain revenge by beating them when they meet again later this season.

Delmonte said: "We are nearly there now following this win. I do feel we have one hand on the trophy now.

"We went a goal down and were outplayed in the first-half.

"But we changed the formation and grew stronger as the game wore on.

"We could have won by more goals in the end."

An own goal gifted Manchester Maccabi the opener. But Ricky Walker’s corner sailed straight in to leave the game evenly poised at the break.

But it was Flixton who seized control as Sacks’ looping header sealed the away-day win to stun the in-form hosts.

Delmonte said: “This was a massive win.

"We have to keep going now and the finish line within sight.

"We have been setting the pace for all of the season and don't want it to slip now."
