MACCABI LONDON LIONS 5 WHETSTONE PANTHERS 0
Max Misrahi was the star man as Maccabi London Lions carried on their fine form with a thumping win against Whetstone.
The saying goals change matches could not have been more prevalent than at Rowley Lane on Sundaymorning. And what goals they were.
The first half was a very well-contested affair with few chances for either team. If anything, Whetstone were the better of the two teams when in possession of the ball. Then, just before half time and slightly against the run of play, Lions scored what was a scrappy but vital goal.
Jack Mattey drove forward into the box from the left, his shot was parried into the path of Alex Rose who finished well, despite the best attempts of a Whetstone defender to save the ball off the line, with his hand.
After half-time Whetstone missed a guilt-edged opportunity to equalise after a long range shot hit the post and the rebound fell to their striker who had to adjust his feet quickly to make contact but then saw his effort trickle past the post.
Almost immediately after that incident Lions broke forward and a cross shot was cleared to just outside the edge of the area on the left-hand side. The ball fell to Misrahi who launched a magnificent shot with his weaker, left, foot on the half volley which flew into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Could that effort be bettered? Well, the goal of the season committee will have to adjudicate as about two minutes later, Jack Mattey got the ball on the right edge of the area, beat one defender with a dip of his shoulder and unleashed a thunderbolt of a cross shot which hit the stanchion in the top left-hand corner of the net.
Whetstone had really done nothing wrong but found themselves 3-0 down. In truth, thereafter, their heads went down and Lions took complete control of the game with Alex Rose notching his second of the match and Sam Shackleton completing the scoring.
