SPEC FC 0 OAKWOOD A 5
Ric Blank believes tougher tests lie ahead after Oakwood A sent out a big title warning with a crushing 5-0 demolition of newly-promoted SPEC FC.
After a goalless first half, Oakwood made a slight switch at half-time and the game changed instantly. The visitors scored a couple of minutes into the second half from a SAM CANTOR free-kick. CANTORdoubled our advantage with a penalty after a clear handball in the box.
From there it was game over as SPEC, though tenacious, lacked the quality to hurt Oakwood going forward.
Oakwood played some good football - especially down their left-hand side. Lee Warner was a constant menace for 90 minutes in the sun. He came away with two deserved assists. GUY HELMAN scored a brilliant third goal and ZACK COLLINS capped a lively cameo with a fourth before a brilliant JOSH ROSE header made it five.
Oaks joint-manager Ric Blank told JC Sport: "We're happy with a good win despite a somewhat laboured first-half display.
"SPEC worked really hard to deny us space but we were a little too slow to move the ball out wide and open up play. It's something we'd spoken about before the game and clearly something we need to improve on.
"A comfortable start to the season ahead of our toughest test next week - Redbridge."
SPEC FC player-manager Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: "Oakwood were the better team. We defended really well during the first half but they got two quick goals after the restart and I guess we sort of capitulated.
"No complaints about the result though, the better side won."
