Revolutionary Chinese takeaway, Zing Zing, takes a healthy step forward

Chinese takeaway is often a treif-fest. Not last night.

Since my pre-Gefiltefest fall, sitting down has become a pain in the rear - literally.

I can stand happily for hours, but cannot last more than 10 minutes in even the softest chair. In fact the more cushioned, the greater my discomfort.

So, an invitation to attend the launch of Zing Zing's new veggie menu looked very attractive. The chance to nosh endless Chinese nibbles whilst standing outside a takeaway premises in W10. Not red carpet — although they did have those red ropes you get outside nightclubs — but it suited me down to my trainer clad feet.

We were greeted with vegetable spring rolls; sesame mushroom toast (the favourite of several of my group); salt and pepper mushrooms and coconut dusted cauliflower. All being handed round in large steamer baskets.

I wish I'd known that more was to follow. I may not have noshed quite so many appetisers (in the manner of a greedy simcha guest at a reception) before the arrival of the main courses. These were served in a series of cute, mini, white Zing Zing branded cardboard boxes. A taster portion of several of the main dishes.

Boxes of firecracker cauliflower; three different types of tofu  — sweet sesame, sweet and sour and the last in black bean sauce; miso aubergine and (my favourite) sweet potato rendang arrived as quickly as I could scoff them up. All sat on white steamed rice or a mixture of brown rice and grains — super healthy tasting.

By the fifth main course dish I was flagging. I literally had to force down a nutella and banana spring roll and then a cinnamon Chinese doughnut dipped in custard. Both were utterly delicious and if they were to deliver a platter to me right now at my desk, I'd do them justice. It was, sadly a self-induced Mrs Creosote moment.

This menu will be available in two of their (soon to be) five outlets. If I lived in catchment of one of them, i'd be Zing Zing-ing it up on nightly basis. Sadly, they are limited to London.

Find out exactly where to try them on their website and maybe you could post me a nutella and banana spring roll or two.
