Netta Zucker's new son

September 27, 2010 11:41

He’s unlikely to remember anything about it, but the newborn son of Sharon and Netta Zucker has had a dramatic entrance into the world.

Who are the Zuckers? They are an Israeli couple who were driving near the Teneh Omarim settlement last night when they were attacked by Palestinian terrorists.

Gunmen, believed to be from the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades (Fatah's military wing) and the al-Quds Brigades (Islamic Jihad's military wing), shot at the car, mildly injuring Sharon Zucker.

Netta Zucker was nine months pregnant at the time. Able to drive on to hospital, Netta had a caesarian and gave birth to a son.

For the Zuckers, today is a celebration. But it could have been very different, as Hamas’ killing of four Israelis earlier this month, including pregnant mother-of-six Talya Ames, reminds.

With the expiry of the settlement freeze - just hours after the shooting - commentators around the web are poised and ready to blame any failure in the peace talks on Israel. It’s worth remembering that the situation is far, far more complicated.
