Banks are once again being targeted: the prices protest that has been flooding the country these last few weeks is expected to reach the banks soon.
A Facebook initiative is calling on the Israeli public to withdraw a "significant" amount of money from ATMs on Monday, August 8, each according to his/her credit limit, and to live on this amount in the near future.
The goal is "abstention" from credit cards, and withdrawing hundreds of millions of shekels from the banks overnight.
Under the headline "Protest against bank fees: On August 8, we will withdraw as much we can from the ATMs!!!" The organizers hope to pressure the banks to reduce interest rates, and to cancel their "varied, high and endless" fees."
But of course it must be the hard pressed middle class who are leading this with their little red flags. Anyway don't the fools calling for this realise that the banks will just leave the machines empty and people who actually need cash for purchases will not be able to withdraw it?
