Twitter may be taking over large parts of the world, but even the most addicted social media aficionado will surely agree that the 140-character limit to tweets means it is not the most obvious mechanism through which to achieve Middle East peace.

And yet it seems both the Israeli and PA governments have turned to Twitter to conduct negotiations towards a meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas. Sadly, not for the first time in relation to the “peace talks”, the word “surreal” springs to mind.
