There should be no need for Jewish Women’s Aid. But the scale of the need is made absolutely clear by the 50 per cent rise in the number of women who have contacted the organisation over the past few months. This does not necessarily indicate a surge in abuse, but rather a greater awareness of JWA after an advertising campaign. But that shows how deeply hidden so much abuse remains. JWA expects to help around 600 women this year — a depressingly large number but almost certainly far below the actual number of abused women. JWA, and those it helps, deserve and need our support.
