Hospital nightmare!!

November 23, 2008 21:05

Oh, it's all too easy to take ones health for granted and think that once a baby is born, they are fine! Unfortunately, having got Michal to eat and sleep well in her first two weeks, things have suddenly taken a turn for the worse!!

As I said, she's been eating and sleeping well, with only a couple of food-induced wake ups during the nights. However, last night, she was particularly restless, showing little interest in eating and suffering with a temperature. At 6am, we identified a seriously red rash on her chest, which prompted a visit to the emergency doctor, and subsequent referral to hospital! Having been in hospital only ten days prior, for Michal's standard check-up and clean bill of health, never did I imagine that we'd be in another hospital so soon after!

Seeing one's child, especially at the age of two weeks, so helpess, has got to be one of the most horrible things to deal with, as a parent...especially when you see all the needle marks and bruises, as a result of numerous attempts to find a 'vein'. At about the tenth attempt, from the third doctor, they were 'successful' in inserting a needle into Michal's arm to feed antibiotics intravenously to deal with mastitis, a rare occurence in a young child.

Going into a children's ward is an eye-opening experience! It really makes you appreciate when you're own children are healthy. Please G-d she'll make a full recovery and be home tomorrow with her Mummy.
