So Ilan's gone away with one of his grandmas for two days to Bournemouth during half-term. "Are you coming too?" he asked me as he was leaving the house, already knowing the answer! "Do you want me to come with?" I asked him? "No!" came the immediate response without a moment's hesitation!
He then jumped into his car seat, said goodbye and was already planning what would be on the radio! For my mum's sake, I just hope it wasn't Postman Pat or Bob the Builder for two hours!
On the one hand, I'm relieved that our four-year-old is so confident and self-assured to be able to go away without Mummy and Daddy for a couple of days. On the other, it does make me feel rather redundant...already worrying about the day when he leaves the nest for good...in another 20 or so years! I know, it's all rather pathetic of me! However, when I came back into the house, my good lady wife looked like she was about to burst into tears at the thought of Ilan not being around for a couple of days, though she just about held herself together.
