Last week we revealed the widespread circulation of antisemitic hate speech in Urdu on YouTube. At first, YouTube did not deign to respond to our attempts to contact it. Now that some of those exposed by the JC have returned to their theme — targeting us as exemplars of the Jewish conspiracy — YouTube has finally decided it might have some responsibility for this and has issued a statement (as bland as the usual corporate speak). It has also removed some of the videos but has left the relevant channels open so more can be added. But it is not just YouTube that appears to care so little about Jew hate. Many organisations appear to be insouciant when it comes to tackling antisemitism.
When Jewish students told Bristol University how David Miller had created an “environment of hate”, the university effectively told the students to go to hell. An “investigation” was set up, but it was clearly a sham; Prof Miller was allowed to return to work and the university has refused to offer even a statement, let alone to take any action. And when BBC journalist Tala Halawa was revealed as having tweeted “Hitler was right”, an inquiry was announced. Weeks later, we are still waiting. The BBC seems to be unsure where it stands on Hitler. Meanwhile in recent weeks we have seen a marauding mob shouting that it is on the hunt for Jews to kill, while the police stand and watch. With every passing day, the truth of David Baddiel’s new book title becomes ever starker. When it comes to tackling race hate, Jews don’t count.
