On May 31st 1962 around midnight, the State of Israel executed Nazi mass-murderer Adolph Eichman.
The Hebrew date corresponding to 31st May 1962 was the 28th of Iyar.
Exactly 5 years later, on the 28th of Iyar, the IDF captured the Old City of Jerusalem, thus returning it to Israeli sovereignty.
The symbolism here is interesting; the Six Day War occurred during the same week - the last week of Iyar - as the war against Amalek, in Sinai, 3,000 years ago.
The late President of Israel,Yitzchak Ben Zvi connected between Amalek and Eichman. Eichman's wife appealed to him for mercy, and his reply to her was the words of the prophet Samuel to Agag, king of the Amalekites, just before he executed him:
Samuel I, Chapter 15:
33 And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
