It's all a giant own goal. Once again Israel demonstrates itself to be a lawless state. The siege of Gaza gets massive publicity, publicity that is going now to be dragged out all summer rather than confined to a few days.
And at the end of it all the ships either together or, better still from a publicity point of view, one at a time, eventually sail for Gaza.
Obviously the flotilla organisers have been naive in not anticipating the degree of ruthless lawlessness they would encounter, but they will have learned a great deal from the experience and the same mistakes won't be made again.
And yet Israel blunders on to September and further sailings next summer. No wonder foreign diplomats in Tel Aviv
despair and ask " will Israel not wake up until it gets the full South Africa treatment ? "
