A month is a long time in the life of a newborn baby

WOW! I can't quite believe it's been a month since becoming a parent for the second time to a beautiful baby daughter! After stays in Barnet and Great Ormond Street hospitals respectively, it looks like Michal's health is now getting better, with the exception of a December cough, and oral thrush as a result of a week of antibiotics!

Throughout this time, three-year old Ilan has had to contend with his own challenges...firstly the arrival of his sibling, and then the instability of having mummy and Michal in an out of hospital over a nine-day period!

Having got used to having an engaging, loving and very funny son, I'd patted myself on the back about what good parents Lauren and I must be. However, reality set in when things started getting a little tricky in the behaviour stakes soon after Michal's arrival.

Consistent line over-stepping, a series of tantrums, and selective hearing were the main symptoms of the new Ilan. Drastic measures were required, and the introduction of star charts were deemed necessary. Amazingly, in the five days since introduing them...with the promise of a gift once completed...Ilan has resumed his pre-Michal self, being a lot more receptive to requests and instructions, and generally making my (and Lauren's life) much easier and calmer.

One thing that has remained constant throughout the month is Ilan's amazing affection towards his sister. And it's not only kisses and cuddles he wants to administer. He's also very happy to get involved with nappy changing and the evening bottle feed. Long may it continue!
