Southend pays tribute

Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation hosted a “Tribute to the Memory of Barbara Newman” charity gala concert .

The community stalwart died in November 2013. One of her many activities for the local community included being instrumental in having a large menorah placed on the cliffs in Westcliff every Chanucah for a public lighting.

President Stephen Salt welcomed the 200-strong crowd and spoke of how Barbara Newman had “the well being of the community at heart”.

Some £3,800 was raised on the night to be divided between British Friends of the Israeli War Disabled and Chai Cancer Care .
