Journalist Hugo Rifkind was among a wide-ranging roster of speakers at the Scotland Day Limmud, explaining how someone with an “institutional commitment to impartiality” could cover the Middle East, a subject on which “inevitably, a Jew will feel partisan”.

For comic relief, Naomi Paul brought her deadpan style to a session titled “Reshape while Damp”. For the foodies, Silvia Nacamulli demonstrated the delights of Italian-Jewish cuisine. And those among the 350 crowd at the Holyrood School who came to dance were catered for by the Glasgow Klezmer Collective. Youth sessions were run by Zoe Jacobs and Frankie Stubbs.

Prior to the Limmud, over 100 people attended a Friday night dinner and presenters spoke at kiddushim in local synagogues on Shabbat.

Co-chair Nadia Lipsey said the organisers were impressed by the turnout. “There was a great buzz on the day and we have had great feedback.”
