Rakusen’s matzahs are once again on the Tesco shelves for Pesach following resolution of a pricing dispute.

At the time of the disagreement back in 2009, Rakusen’s complained that the supermarket was “hammering people all the time over prices. It’s just not viable to stock goods there.”

However, the parties resolved their differences six months ago.“Tesco invited us to look at resupplying,” said Rakusen’s managing direcor Alan Pridmore. “This is a commercial arrangement that we’ve re-entered — it’s as simple as that.

“We’re at the heart of the Jewish community and like the idea that we’re widely available. As a company, we’re pleased to be back with Tesco.”

A Tesco spokesperson also welcomed the renewed partnership, which allowed the store to “offer customers the widest possible range of Passover products”.

Mr Pridmore expects around 400,000 of the red and blue matzah boxes to be purchaseed across the country during the Pesach period. “Around the year we provide more matzah to the non-Jewish community than the Jewish community,” he added.

“We’re widely available on cracker shelves [as well as] the designated kosher area.”
