Norwood adoption plea

articlemain

Norwood is marking National Adoption Week by appealing for adopters for children across the UK in need of a loving home.

The charity is seeking people from all backgrounds, including single applicants, willing to adopt children aged two and over, sibling groups or those from "complex and diverse backgrounds". The appeal comes ahead of the annual adoption party for children and families it has supported through the adoption process.

Adoption services manager Gillian Kirsch reported that Norwood last year placed 12 children, including two with special needs, "with approved domestic adopters within the first year of their approval.

"We place children from all over the country, which also increases people's chances of success. We provide objective and clear advice on how to adopt and help prospective adopters to decide what the best option is for them. Our experience shows that once you understand the process, you are able to make clear and informed decisions."

Last year, Norwood helped north Londoner Alison, 48, to adopt Sophie, a six-year-old who had spent several years in foster care. "It's the best thing I ever did and I cannot imagine life before Sophie," Alison said.

"Norwood was very positive from the start and I liked the fact that, as a smaller organisation, they had more of a personal touch. I also know that if I ever need to, I can pick up the phone and someone from Norwood will be there."
