Honey sweetens Women's Week pot

articlemain

The face of this year's Wizo UK Jewish Women's Week collection campaign is Yossi, who struggled at school because of severe learning difficulties, but was given the opportunity through Wizo to train as a chef in Israel. He now manages a trendy Jerusalem restaurant.

Given the culinary theme, Honey & Co - the central London restaurant with a menu inspired by husband and wife Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich's Israeli upbringing - seemed a good place to promote it.

So on Monday, Wizo's Francine Barsam and Jackie Ellert visited Honey & Co on a campaign stop. As well as giving a quick cookery lesson, the owners expressed support for JWW's aims.

"It's good to invest in the young and give structure and a good starting point in life to people who have fewer advantages," Ms Packer said afterwards.

"People can fit into a kitchen when perhaps they don't fit into a traditional working environment. People with learning difficulties find it easier because it's got a lot of repetitive elements.

"It's definitely a good way to give people a sense of achievement because the results are immediate."

Wizo hopes to raise around £250,000 for its various welfare projects in Israel from JWW, the only Jewish door-to-door collection approved by the Home Office.
