Footballers help UJIA net £115k

articlemain

UJIA covered the north London bases for its annual sports quiz and dinner by recruiting former stars from both Arsenal and Spurs, respectively Ray Parlour and Graham Roberts.

The wider goal was promoted by committee chair Clive Nathan, who spoke of his recent visit to UJIA's Equalizer programme in Haifa, which brings young Jews, Arabs and Druze together through football.

A video shown to the 250 guests at Barnet FC's stadium depicted a tournament organised as part of the programme. An appeal raised £115,000, which will enable more disadvantaged children to take part and also receive extra school tutoring.

Lots at the silent auction included a signed Red Bull Formula One team racing cap and tours of LBC and ITV News.

UJIA's Louise Melzack said that "Sports Night is always one of our liveliest events and tonight was no exception. Guests love the hi-tech quiz and they really connected with the Equalizer programme because it's about harnessing the power of football to do something positive for Israel."
