The best ways to spend abroad

articlemain

If you are going away, don't forget to clue up on how to save the most money when using your plastic overseas.

Halifax's Clarity card is currently one of the best on the market to ensure you save on spending while you are away. However, it is only a good tool if you set up a direct debit to repay it in full each month.

While most cards add a three per cent foreign-exchange 'load' fee (in other words: spend £100 of dollars/euros on them and it costs you £103), Halifax's Clarity card load is free worldwide. Nor will it charge you for cash withdrawal.

However, it does charge interest, at least 12.9 per cent APR on cash withdrawals even if you fully repay, but this works out to only around £1 per £100, still making it the cheapest way to spend overseas.
