Jewish actors, writers, producers and directors have won awards for their work in television in this year’s nominees at this year’s Emmy awards.

Alex Borstein won best supporting actress in a comedy series for her role in Marvelous Mrs Maisel, which is about a Jewish woman.

In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to her wartime ancestors: “my grandmother, Naji, they are immigrants, they are Holocaust survivors.

“My grandmother turned to a guard, she was in line to be shot into a pit and she said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ and he said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you, but somebody will’  and she stepped out of line.

“And for that, I am here and for that, my children are here, so step out of line, ladies, step out of line!”

Patricia Arquette won best supporting actress in a limited series for her role in The Act, while Game of Thrones – written by David Benioff and D B Weiss, both of whom are Jewish – won outstanding drama series.

Craig Mazin won best writer of a limited series for Chernobyl, which also won outstanding limited series.
