Fans chant 'killing the Jews to make soap' at Argentine football team with Jewish roots

Simon Wiesenthal Center demands the team be sanctioned

An Argentine football club is facing calls for it to be sanctioned, after its fans reportedly shouted "killing the Jews to make soap" at a rival club during a match.

Fans of All Boys also reportedly fled Palestinian flags and t-shirts bearing Iranian slogans as they watched their team lose 3-2 to Atlanta, triggering riots and confrontations with the police.

Atlanta was founded in the historically Jewish Villa Crespo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. It has several Jewish players.

After the game, which was played at the All Boys' homeground on Thursday, some spectators had to shelter in the locker room before police could help them exit safely.

All Boys fans attacked police officers and damaged property in the stadium, as well as police cars.

Shimon Samuels, Simon Wiesenthal Center’s director for International Relations, said: “The Argentine Football Association must sanction the club for this antisemitic offence."
