Disney is continuing its attempts to show it is making progress when it comes to diversity and representation by announcing it will be introducing its first ever Jewish princess in December.

Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who will be the voice of the princess, announced the news on Twitter.

"I am so excited to voice Disney's first Jewish princess," she told her followers.

Disney's new Jewish princess will make her first appearance in a Hanukkah-themed episode of the hit series Elena of Avalor.

In her debut episode, the princess will be visiting from a Latina-Jewish kingdom during Elena's royal coronation special.

Eagar fans are keen to know what the first Jewish princess will be called but they might have to wait a bit longer.

It will be the first Jewish princess Disney has introduced in its 82-year history of royal characters.

Sigler is Sephardic and Ashkenazi through her father. Her mother, who is Cuban and was raised Catholic, converted to Judaism when she married to Sigler's father.

As a child, Sigler went to Hebrew school and had a bat mitzvah
