A representative of Stamford Hill’s Shomrim volunteer security group has said antisemitism in the area is “getting worse” after an incident where a man threw a glass bottle at Jewish girls while shouting “Hitler is a good man; good he killed the Jews”.

The girls, aged 15 and 16, were outside their home in Hackney at around 7pm on Sunday when they were approached by the man, in what was described by Shomrim as an “unprovoked antisemitic attack”.

The girls escaped their assailant by running into their home.

Chaim Hochhauser from Stamford Hill Shomrim said: "This was a terrifying experience for the young victims who were targeted in this unprovoked antisemitic attack.

“Shomrim will continue to assist and support the victims. There have been many antisemitic incidents in Stamford Hill recently, and it just seems to be getting worse."

The comments from Shomrim come after figures from the Community Security Trust last month showed that Jew-hate incidents in the UK have risen to the highest level ever recorded, with 767 in the first six months of the year. This is 30 per cent higher than the same period in 2016, where 589 incidents were logged.

The Metropolitan Police said: "The suspect is described as a male in his early twenties, with a slim build and wearing a black t-shirt, black trousers and  a black cross body bag.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact 111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can also tweet information to police @MetCC."

Marie van der Zyl, vice president of the Board of Deputies, said: “This was a cowardly and disgusting attack on a group of young girls. This low life should be prosecuted and feel the full force of the law.”
