It couldn’t have started much better as the Lions forged ahead within the first two minutes when Charlie Rubin’s cross was brought down by Mannie who teed up Nick Landesberg to smash home from five yards – giving Lions the perfect start – and an ideal birthday gift for manager Andy Landesberg.

As always, however, games against Hatfield require some steadfast defending and the pitch was not helping Lions attacking flow as the match remained evenly poised for over an hour.

Ben Long was making a good impression with some tireless running in midfield, but it took some more magic from Mannie to give Lions a cushion with 15 minutes left.

The Lions winger played some nice football with sub Tyler Smith before jinking his way past past two defenders and chipping the ‘keeper in some style for 2-0.

Adam Burchell, another substitute, completed the day’s scoring – and again it was Mannie at the heart of things when he drove down the wing and squared the ball for Buchell to slot in from eight yards as Lions remain in the top five and in the hunt.

LIONS: James Harpin, Adam Lipman, Charlie Rubin, Ben Long, Adam Myeroff, Nick Landesberg, Liron Mannie, Jake Furman, Adam Bolle, Austin Lipman, Jack Mattey. Subs: Adam Burchell, Tyler Smith, Sam Hamerton

SCORERS: Landesberg, Mannie 2
