Couple on Gogglebox suggest Mossad committed Salisbury nerve agent attack

Channel 4 said that the show's fans would understand that the comments were not intended to be taken seriously

A couple on Gogglebox have risked enflaming diplomatic tensions with Israel by flippantly suggesting that Mossad was responsible for the Salisbury nerve agent attack.

The couple, Wiltshire-based Giles Wood and Mary Killen, appeared on last Friday’s episode of the popular Channel 4 show.

Their comments were made during the segment of the show featuring news coverage of the attack on former intelligence agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia.

Mr Wood said: “Mossad, Nutty. Mossad are incredibly pro-active in the spy world.”

Ms Killen replied: “So Mossad could do it to demonise Putin?”

Channel 4 explained that the show's fans, who are accustomed to the couple's musings, would understand that the comments were not intended to be taken seriously.

A spokeswoman for the channel added: "The Gogglebox families, like members of the public all over the UK, were speculating about the Salisbury attack. Five families were shown discussing it and theories ranged from Sherlock Holmes to film plots."

The couple, who first appeared on Gogglebox three years ago, are known to fans for their “dry musings” and a habit of calling each other “Nutty”, the Daily Telegraph reported in 2016.
