The British tourist who claimed she was raped in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, by 12 Israeli teenagers has changed her testimony to say the sex was consensual, according to local police.

The 19-year-old woman said she had accused the teenagers of rape because she felt humiliated after they filmed the act and then ejected her from the room afterwards, Israeli newspapers reported.

She has been arrested on suspicion of making a false allegation.

Five of the accused Israelis were freed last week and the remaining seven were released from custody on Sunday, police said. They and their families celebrated outside the court, dancing and singing religious songs.

According to Channel 12, Cypriot investigators had shown the woman the suspects’ video clips of the alleged gang rape - made using their phones - which show her smiling during the incident.

“Rape never took place,” a Cypriot police source said.

“As I claimed throughout, there was no rape in Cyprus,” said Nir Yaslovitzh, an attorney for some of the suspects.

“The youths who went on a vacation that became a nightmare will return to their homes today. All of them will return home to their families. Cypriot police carried out a professional and thorough investigation.”
