An Israeli tourist has been gang-raped in India, according to police reports.
The 25-year-old woman was attempting to travel from the resort of Manali, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, to a nearby town to meet friends.
At 3am on Sunday morning she flagged down a car which she mistakenly thought was a taxi, but accepted an offer of a lift, Indian media reported.
According to Padam Chand, a police superintendent in Manali, there were six men in the car, and two of them raped the tourist after stopping in a desolate spot.
A manhunt was reportedly underway today to find the perpetrators and their accomplices.
The woman has been treated in hospital, and is to be moved to a larger facility where a proper medical examination will be carried out, according to Manali police.
The Israeli embassy in New Delhi has been informed, and police claimed they were confident that the men would be apprehended.
“We have got some clues and are now trying to establish the identities of the culprits,” said Mr Chand.
“Soon they will be behind bars."
