Two Israeli men were wounded - one critically - in a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem on Friday morning.

Israeli police shot dead the suspected assailant, a 19-year old Palestinian man from the West Bank.

A man in his 50s was treated by medics after being stabbed in the head and neck near the Damascus Gate before being rushed to Shaare Zedek Hospital.

The second victim, a teenager, was wounded in the back outside the Hurva Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter.

Israeli security has been stepped up around the Old City today for the last Friday in the fasting month of Ramadan.
