Around 55 children have been injured and two babies have died after what is being reported as a “gas leak” at a Jerusalem nursery.
Reports say investigators are examining whether the heating was faulty at the daycare, a line of inquiry that would indicate possible carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Magen David Adom emergency service said the two babies were found unconscious.
The reports say the two, aged three and four months, were taken to hospital where they were then declared dead.
According to the strictly-Orthodox Behadrei Haredim news site, it was the first day that one of the two attended the nursery.
Many of the children were said to be suffering breathing problems.
Reports said the two babies were in a separate area from the other children at the nursery that was located in a number of adjacent apartments.
Three caregivers have been detained for questioning.
