New Progressive campus chaplain Zooms around the country

Anna Posner says that online engagement will help her to quickly get to know students

Former LJY-Netzer movement worker Anna Posner is returning to Liberal Judaism as the new Progressive Judaism chaplain on campus, serving both Liberal and Reform students. She will also work with those aged 16-22 in the LJY-Netzer and RSY-Netzer youth organisations.

“I can’t wait to begin making connections with students all over the country and help facilitate community building on campuses, as well as working with students to navigate the new but temporary challenges that come with being limited to online spaces,” Ms Posner said.

One of those challenges would be “to balance the needs of those who have gone to university in person and those who are meeting online”.

On the plus side, “it is far easier in an online platform to be present for people all over the country and I can do ‘visits’ via Zoom to students far and wide in the same day”.

Ms Posner — who graduates from the Leo Baeck rabbinical course next month — will also be the new minister of Beit Klal Yisrael, the London congregation which describes itself as the “all-embracing Jewish community”.

She explained that BKY was set up 30 years ago as “a space for people who did not feel included in other Jewish communities, at the time particularly LGBT+ Jews. BKY’s members are active and passionate. I see the community growing over the next few years and continuing to offer an inclusive, creative and welcoming space where everyone can feel involved. I thoroughly enjoyed my student placement there and can’t wait to see where our partnership takes us.”
