Darren Lawrence believes the MGBSFL Division One title race is far from over after Jewdinese condemned North London Galaxy to their first defeat of the season after a stunning performance.

JEWDINESE 3 NORTH LONDON GALAXY 0

It was a tense and cagey opening as both teams ensured there were no early mistakes in difficult conditions.

Galaxy had their first and only real chance of the game, when the ball was hit well towards the goal following a scramble in the box, but 'Nese no. 1 Ben Halmer stood up well and denied them with his legs.

Although Galaxy may have had more possession, they were incredibly wasteful with it, with long ball after long ball being over hit as Halmer easily collected.

'Nese had the first real chance of the game, after some good wing play from Zack Collins created some space. He drilled the ball low and hard towards Reiss Mogilner but a strong hand from Zack Nathan in goal diverted the ball away.

With a minute of the first half to go, a delightful ball from Billy Lee found Collins again in space. He beat his man and delivered it on a plate for Mogilner to tap home and the Zebras went into half-time 1-0 up.

The second half saw complete domination from the home side. With the wind and momentum in their favour, they were able to play their football and cruise to victory. Scott Oldstein did brilliantly to beat one man and race down the wing where he was hacked down. Joe Meisel stood over the ball from a dangerous position. He clipped the ball in and Brad Dryer got a vital touch to guide the ball in off the far post, sparking bedlam on the Nese bench, as home fans knew the game was wrapped up from there.

There was still time left for one more goal to complete the performance. In the 90th minute, Galaxy had a free-kick just inside Nese half and threw men forward. Joe Meisel headed the ball away towards the touchline. Collins raced out to collect the ball and in the blink of an eye was inside the Galaxy box, leaving defenders in his wake. He pulled the ball back for Zac Brin to tap in.

Jubilant 'Nese boss Darren Lawrence told JC Sport: "I could not be happier today. A truly sensational team performance - three great goals and three well earned points.

“It was a huge, huge performance today. I am so immensely proud of every single player. We stuck to the task, listened to my instructions and thoroughly deserved the win. A great momentum builder for another big game next week. The title race is not over yet.”
