Dudi Sela roared into the third round of the Australian Open with a stunning victory over Fernando Verdasco - the man who knocked out Rafael Nadal.
The Israeli no. 1 followed up his comfortable first-round win over Benjamin Becker with an outstanding performance to strengthen his hopes of reaching this year's Olympic Games in Rio.
Verdasco of Spain broke serve to win the first set 6-4 before Sela stepped up a gear to take the second 6-3.
Sela, who produced five aces in comparison to Verdasco's nine but sent down five fewer double faults, gained the upper hand after winning the fourth set 6-3 before holding his nerve in a fourth-set tie-break, which he won 7-4.
The post-match statistics made interesting viewing, as Verdasco hit twice as many winners as Sela, but crucially he was forced into twice as many unforced errors by the hard-working Sela who covered the court superbly.
The reward for Sela is a third-round meeting with Andrey Kuznetsov who eliminated 30th seed Jeremy Chardy of France in straight sets.
