Five-year-old Zekey Benitah transformed an empty patch into a 'blooming garden' at his school

The Royal Horticultural Society has named five-year-old Zekey Benitah of Nancy Reuben Primary School in Hendon as its Young Gardener of the Year for key stage one.

In the award citation, the society said that it was "Zekey's idea to start a school garden by transforming empty patches into a blooming garden. He helps other children to care for the space and together they grow a huge range of produce."

The school has taken part in RHS schemes to make soup from their own vegetables and this year is competing in the giant pumpkin contest.
