Clore Tikva scoop prize in robotics contest

Redbridge school would have gone on to USA for international competition - but didn't have the funds

Clore Tikva Primary School in Redbridge have won a national contest in robotics less than a year after launching their school club for it.

They emerged as primary school team work champions in the VEX IQ Challenge UK National Championship in Telford in which 57 primary and secondary schools took part.

Clore Tikva launched a robotics club only last October and, with four weeks to build and code their robot, attended their first competition the following month.

In their first regional contest, they secured third place and by the third regional event, they came home in first place with four awards.

When robots break down, teams have to think creatively on how to fix the problem.

But such was the school’s progress that at the national contest, where teams were tested on their coding, management and robot driving skills, their robots did not require repair.

Had the school had the funds, their achievements would have earned them the chance to represent the UK at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Texas.

Headteacher Margot Buller said, “We at Clore Tikva are so proud of our children and how they have represented themselves, the school, and the local community at large.

“A new challenge has been launched and our budding engineers will be welcoming new members and new challenges for the next season. We would like to invite our local community to support them so this year we can make it all the way to America or perhaps a capacity for having more teams.”
