It may not have quite been the Oscars but Yavneh College students enjoyed a prize-giving from Hollywood.

Top TV producer Ben Winston digitally gave out awards donated by his family to encourage the college’s new sixthform Jewish studies programme.

Yahadut, developed with the help of PaJeS and introduced in September, offers the choice of six tracks: history, philosophy, ethics, Israel, leadership or beit midrash learning.

Mr Winston, executive co-producer of The Late Late Show with James Cordon, awarded the prizes in memory of his great-uncle Leo Golomb, a supporter of the arts. They were given for projects as part of the Yahadut course.

First prize went to Allie Bohm and Toby Grunwald for a video and PowerPoint presentation on the importance of brachot and gratitude in Jewish thought.

Second prizes went to Emma Joseph and Tamzin Lester: and to Aidan Lester and Matan Davis. Jake Lesner and Leon Schachter each picked up a third prize.

Spencer Lewis, the executive headteacher of Yavneh schools, said, “Our sixthform Yahadut programme is exceptional, it pushes the students in their Jewish studies matching what they achieve in all their other subjects.”
