Cabaret for Chechnya

A special fundraiser by British and Israeli performers will raise money for the LGBT community in Chechnya

articlemain

A cabaret featuring music by Jewish and Queer songwriters is being performed to raise money and awareness for LGBT people in Chechnya who are being persecuted for their identity.

"As Jews, we decided that we cannot ignore this atrocity and felt the need to do something, while still delivering an evening of fun and humour. Therefore our performance fully embraces both the Jewish and Queer identities of the musicians and writers we decided to showcase. Our goal is to shout out loud that we're here, we're Queer, and people better get used to it," said Shar Shamai, one of the performers.

The show -  on June 9 and 10 at the Waterloo East Theatre - will feature music by Sondheim and Bernstein among many others.
