Warwick in to boost AFC Flixton

AFC Flixton have signed former Stoke City player Michael Warwick ahead of their first season in non-Jewish football.

"Having left the MJSL, Flixton’s managers Tony Rosenberg and Stuart Delmonte have brought in several new signings as they prepare for life in Division One of the Accountants League.

"The former Maccabi Manchester management team have added Ben Tyer, Alex Singer, Adam Green, Daniel Warwick and Jordan Gold to their ranks, along with former Maccabi Haifa star Yaniv Shalem.

"But it’s the addition of Warwick, who played for Team GB at the 2009 Maccabiah Games and Maccabi Tel Aviv that will excite their fans the most.

"It all bodes well for the start of the season,” said Delmonte. “Our aim is to finish in the top six and reach a cup final. It’s all about bedding in. Anything more will be an absolute bonus.”

ROF start their league campaign at home to Manchester Villa at their Accounts Direct Stadium in Valley Road, Flixton, on Sunday.

Coached by Chuks Akenuito, a former Nigerian international who is also the first-team trainer at FC United, ROF took part in a 4-4 thriller against Mace in their first pre-season match.

Strikes from Rob Jacobs, Adam Tauber, Jacob Richler-Kleiman and Warwick helped them come from two goals down to draw level.

The match was abandoned 10 minutes from time after former Maccabi Manchester striker Richler-Kleiman suffered a broken ankle that will rule him out for 10 weeks.
