Silkman to coach Team GB 45's at 2013 Maccabiah

Barry Silkman will coach the Team GB 45-plus football squad at next summer’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.

A member of the gold-medal winning team in 2009, the former Manchester City midfielder will work alongside the management team of Brian Donne and Daniel Collins.

Daniel Collins commented: “We are extremely happy and excited to be working with Barry once again at the Maccabiah.

"His experience and skill at the highest level of the game was a significant factor in the 45-plus team winning gold in 2009 and we are hopeful he can do the same again in 2013.”

Brian Donne said: "I believe Barry will help create a fun, fair and winning team spirit on and off the field that will go towards helping us retain our gold medal."

Silkman played for 11 clubs during an illustrious career. He made 19 appearances and scored three goals for

City as well as 48 matches for Crystal Palace. He then signed for QPR, where he played 23 games before moving to Orient in 1981 where he made 140 appearances, scoring 14 goals. In total, Barry made 340 professional appearances scoring 31 goals.

He then moved into coached and was also assistant-manager at Leyton Orient for three years under Frank Clarke and held the same position at Crewe under Dario Gradi. He now works as a football agent and plays in the Maccabi Masters Football League.
