Bring on the Villa, says Joe the giant-killer

Joe Jacobson believes he can play his part in one of the biggest FA Cup shocks.

The Wycombe Wanderers defender is gearing up to face Premier League strugglers Aston Villa in the third round.

Although there are three divisions between the two teams, Wycombe will fancy adding to Villa’s woes.

And Cardiff-born Jacobson is desperate to make history in the televised clash at Adams Park on January 9.

He said: “It’s a massive game for us and one we’ve been looking forward to.

"You always want to test yourself against the top teams. Although Villa are not having the best of seasons they will rightly be firm favourites.

"There is a real gulf. They have Premier League players.

"But we know on our day if we play our best and they are off their game then we stand a real chance. It’s going to be a great occasion.

"They won’t be looking forward to coming to us and they have everything to lose."

Jacobson’s longest run in the FA Cup is when he helped his former club Bristol Rovers reach the quarter-finals back in 2008.

He would love a repeat run against a Villa side who boast the likes of Jordan Ayew (inset) and said: “It’s the draw we wanted. Realistically we are not going to win the cup but we want to progress.”

Jacobson, 29, will be inundated with tickets requests for the televised game on BT Sport. He added: “My family are my biggest supporters and will be there.

"But my brother Sam, who is a Villa fan, is gutted that he is at a wedding."
